Generative Spirit is an initiative of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland that cultivates shared learning and relationship-building between Catholic sisters and lay partners in ministry, particularly young adults, with a vision to sustain the tremendous impact that sisters make to communities of need.
Through this initiative, the Sisters of Charity Foundation, in partnership with the Northeast Ohio Conference of Religious Leadership and the Coalition with Young Adults, intends to inspire the next generation of lay leaders at sister-led, sister-founded nonprofit organizations through relationship building, information sharing, educational programming, convening, communication and research.
Generative Spirit formed in response to the future needs of Greater Cleveland’s Catholic sister-led organizations. Catholic sisters have a centuries-long legacy of serving and advocating for those who live in poverty, or in vulnerable or unjust conditions.
With most of Cleveland’s Catholic sisters transitioning out of active ministry in the next five years, it is imperative to make sure their ministries are sustained well into the future. Generative Spirit inspires the collaboration of Catholic sisters and lay partners to share expertise and build relationships that will help strengthen these ministries.
Through five main focus areas: programs, convening, research, communications and visioning, Generative Spirit fosters conversation and partnerships to share the tremendous contributions Catholic sisters have made through their service to those in need.
With the support of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and the leadership of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland, Conference of Religious Leaders (CORL) and Coalition with Young Adults (CYA), Generative Spirit will inspire the next generation of lay leaders who follow the model of Catholic sisters in service and ministry.
The initiative ensures that those who are poor, vulnerable or living in unjust conditions feel the sustained impact, as well as the support, of the Catholic sisters who have served them for years.
The next generation of lay leaders is inspired to follow the model of Catholic sisters in service and ministry, sustaining their impact and legacy for generations to come.
