Progress & Promise: Sisters Serving Northeast Ohio is the local component of the nationally renowned exhibition Women & Spirit: Catholic Sisters in America. Created by the Leadership Conference of Women Religious in 2009, Women & Spirit shares the historical contributions of Catholic sisters in the United States through a comprehensive exhibition of stories and artifacts, as well as an accompanying documentary.
In 2010, the Progress & Promise exhibit appeared as the local piece of Women & Spirit during its historic visit to Cleveland, which was one of only eight cities nationwide selected as part of its one-time tour across the country. Progress & Promise then went on display as a travelling exhibit throughout Northeast Ohio to continue to tell the story of women religious and their contributions to the growth of this region.
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland recently funded the permanent installation of this exhibit at Regina Health Center in Richfield, Ohio. Regina Health Center is a unique national model for the compassionate care for elderly women and men religious and priests throughout the Diocese of Cleveland and beyond. It represents many congregations, but one community.
Progress & Promise: Sisters Serving Northeast Ohio came to life through the hearts and hands of many. Members of the community are invited to visit Regina Health Center and experience this exhibit. It serves as an enduring celebration of the contributions of women religious in our region from 1850 to the present, and inspires acts of service from all who view it.
The original creation of the travelling exhibit was made possible through the generous participation of the Conference of Religious Leadership and women religious of the Catholic Dioceses of Cleveland and Youngstown, who shared their inspiring stories and historical materials.
The Progress & Promise: Sisters Serving Northeast Ohio exhibit was published as a book. Click here to read the full text. If you would like to order a copy of the book email Erin McIntyre at emcintyre@socfcleveland.org.
